What to Pack for TravCon (So You’re Ready for Literally Everything)

TravCon is not your average work trip.

It’s part conference, part reunion, part networking marathon, and part “how am I this tired, but still having so much fun?” experience. Between the exhibit hall, education sessions, recruiter meetings, happy hours, and the legendary afterparty, you need to be ready for just about anything.

Packing the right way can make or break your week, so here’s what to bring if you want to show up prepared, comfortable, and ready to enjoy every moment.

Comfortable Shoes (And Then Some)

Let’s start with the most important thing you’ll pack: your shoes.

You’ll be walking:

  • Around the exhibit floor
  • Between hotels
  • To Sessions
  • To dinners
  • To meetups

One pair of shoes won’t cut it. Bring at least 2 comfortable pairs so you can rotate and avoid sore, tired feet halfway through the week.

Yes, they still have to look good. But if they hurt after 30 minutes, leave them at home.

Layers, Because Conference Centers Are Unpredictable

If TravCon has a dresscode, it’s “be prepared for all temperatures at once.”

Conference rooms can be freezing. The exhibit hall might be warm. Outside could be anything. Bring layers you can easily throw on and off:

  • A light jacket
  • A cardigan or hoodie
  • A blazer or lightweight sweater

You’ll be glad you didn’t have to buy an overpriced sweatshirt in the lobby.

A Bag That Can Handle the Chaos

By day two, your bag will be holding: Your phone, chargers, snacks, water, business cards, flyers, swag, and that one thing someone gave you that you forgot you had. Pick a bag that’s lightweight, comfortable, and sturdy, whether that’s a backpack, tote, or crossbody. Bonus points if it doesn’t hurt your shoulder by noon.

All the Chargers (Plus a Portable One)

Your phone is basically your lifeline at TravCon. You’ll use it for:

  • Schedules
  • Maps
  • Notes
  • Scanning QR codes
  • Swapping contact info
  • Posting on social

Bring your regular charger and a portable charger so your phone doesn’t die right when you need it most.

Something to Share Your Contact Info

You’re going to meet a ton of people: recruiters, fellow travelers, speakers, and potential future connections. Whether it’s traditional business cards or a digital card on your phone, have something ready, so you’re not scrambling to type your name into someone’s phone in a loud exhibit hall or room.

Snacks, Because You Will Forget to Eat

Between sessions and conversations, it’s shockingly easy to skip meals. Throw a few snacks in your bag: protein bars, trail mix, granola, anything easy to eat on the go. They’ll save you when lunch gets delayed, and your energy starts to crash.

A Water Bottle

Walking, talking, and being in dry conference air all day will drain you fast. Bring a refillable water bottle and keep it with you as much as possible. More water = more energy, fewer headaches, and a much happier voice.

The Little Comfort Items You’ll Be So Glad You Brought

These don’t take up much space, but they make a big difference:

  • Lip balm
  • Hand lotion
  • Tissues
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Mints or gum

TravCon days are long; these little things help you stay comfortable from morning to night.

Outfits That Work All Day

You don’t need a suitcase full of clothes, but you do need outfits that can go from Morning sessions to the exhibit floor to recruiter meetings to dinner or networking events. Think comfortable, professional, and easy to move in. If you feel good in what you’re wearing, everything else is easier.

Don’t Forget Your Afterparty Look

This one is important! The TravCon Afterparty is legendary. Be sure to keep an eye on social media to see what this year’s theme is and plan accordingly. Make sure that whatever you choose, you are able to dance the night away in it!

The Most Important Thing: Your Attitude

TravCon can be busy, loud, and a little overwhelming, but it’s also one of the best opportunities of the year to connect, learn, and grow.

Pack your curiosity, your confidence, and your willingness to talk to new people. That’s what turns a good conference into a great one.

Pack Smart. Have More Fun.

When you’re prepared, TravCon becomes less stressful and way more fun. A few thoughtful packing choices mean you can focus on what really matters, making connections, learning something new, and enjoying every minute of the experience.

Pack smart. Show up ready. Make the most of TravCon.
Secure your ticket, and we’ll see you there.
