TravCon isn’t just a conference. It’s not just an expo. And it’s definitely not just a place to grab free swag (though we all love it 😏).
It’s where connections happen, careers shift, and a whole lot of “I’m so glad I came” moments are made. Whether this is your first TravCon or your fifth, how much you get out of it depends on how you show up.
Here’s how to make this year one you’ll still be talking about long after you unpack.
Go In With a Loose Plan (Not a Rigid Schedule)
Yes, check out the sessions. Yes, look at the agenda. Yes, have a few “must-do” things in mind.
But be sure to leave room for:
- Spontaneous conversations
- Unexpected opportunities
- A recruiter you didn’t plan to meet
- A session you didn’t know you needed
Some of the best TravCon moments happen when you follow curiosity instead of a color-coded schedule.
Talk to People (Even If You’re Introverted)
You don’t have to work the room like a reality TV contestant, but you do have to talk to people.
Say hi in line, sit next to someone new in a session, or start a conversation in the exhibit hall. Everyone is there for the same reason: to connect. A simple “Where are you from?” can turn into a new friend, job lead, or someone you’ll see at TravCon every year from now on.
Don’t Just Collect Swag – Collect Contacts
Free stuff is fun. But what you really want to leave with is people. When you have a good conversation, exchange contact info, or connect on social media. That way, when TravCon is over, you actually remember who that amazing person was that you met between booths 214 and 215.
Go to the Things You Almost Skip
The breakout session you’re unsure about, the networking event you don’t know anyone at, and especially the Afterparty!
Those are usually the moments that end up being the most fun and the most valuable. TravCon is more beneficial to the people who show up.
Pace Yourself
The days at TravCon are long. The nights can be even longer. And somehow, you’re still expected to be a functional human the next morning.
Drink water. Eat real food. Sit down when you can. Burning yourself out by day two is not the goal; enjoying the whole experience is.
Put Your Phone Down (Sometimes)
Yes, take photos. Yes, check the schedule. Yes, post on social. But don’t spend the whole conference watching it through a screen. Some of the best moments happen in real time, in conversations, laughter, and connections you didn’t plan.
Remember Why You Came
TravCon is about more than contracts and booths. It’s about feeling connected to a community that understands your life, your work, and your journey.
You’re not just there to network. You’re also there to learn, grow, feel inspired, and remember why you chose this path in the first place. Let yourself enjoy that!
TravCon is What You Make It
You can come to TravCon, walk the exhibit floor, grab some swag, and go home. Or you can come to TravCon and leave with new opportunities, new friends, and a fresh sense of excitement about what’s next.
Show up. Say Yes. Start conversations. And most of all, have fun! That’s where the magic happens.
