Healthy & Active Ideas for TravCon

TravCon Sat Hike Group

TravCon is proud to call beautiful Las Vegas our home! Las Vegas is a city that is easy to access with plane routes entering from around the country, a multitude of hotels at many price points, and literally something for everybody. However, we often hear from travelers, “There’s nothing to do in Vegas except drink.” While there is definitely an undeniable amount of alcohol-fueled party activities in Vegas, there are also a lot of active and healthy options to enjoy without alcohol and without entering the party scene. Here are some of our suggestions for you when you come to TravCon.

Participate In The TravCon Fitness Challenge

TravCon knows that it is hard to stay fit during a conference. You may not leave the hotel all day and it can be difficult to get exercise in. We developed a fitness challenge that encourages you to stay fit during the conference.

You can find Fitness Challenge 2019 on the TravCon app. It starts on September 5th and lasts for a week. Every time you participate in a fitness activity, which ranges from taking a hike to doing air squats, you can log it on the app for points. Prizes will be awarded based on the number of points!

Take a Walk Or Run

The Las Vegas strip is over four miles and there are many streets that connect the city. The walkways in Las Vegas are a great place to take a walk or run. Get out of the hotel and into the city. However, average temperatures in early September reach into the 90s, so make sure you get out and about either in the early morning or late at night, to avoid the excessive heat.

If you want to join an organized group from TravCon for a 4k strip walk, Alex McCoy of Fit Travel Life is hosting a group walk/run Monday, before conference activities, at 7am. More information and sign up for the walk can be accessed here: TravCon Kick Off Run/Walk.

Go For A Hike

Outside of Las Vegas, there is an opportunity to escape the heat and hike on Mount Charleston. Mount Charleston is about an hour’s drive outside of Vegas, and honestly, the drive is so beautiful that it makes the trip go by so fast. In the mountains, you will feel the crisp mountain air as the temperature drops. There are many hiking trails on Mount Charleston. Last year, a group of TravCon attendees hiked the Mary Jane Falls Trail.

This year, an organized group will be hiking Cathedral Rock on Saturday, September 7th. Sign up is located here. The hike to Cathedral Rock is not recommended for novice hikers or people who have difficulty adjusting to high elevations.

Red Rock Canyon is another walking and hiking location close to Vegas. While you won’t escape the desert heat at Red Rocks, you will find a variety of hiking trails. The website lists over 26 marked hiking trails that you can complete at Red Rock Canyon.

Participate In The TravCon Golf Scramble

On Saturday, September 7th, there is a TravCon golf scramble hosted by Thomas Piper of Scrub Squad 1978. Space for this event is limited; if you don’t make it for the sign up this year, mark it on your calendar for next year. The golf event is traditionally the Saturday before the conference. More info and sign up.

Do Yoga or Group Exercise

There are plenty of gyms and group fitness locations around Las Vegas. If you have a gym subscription, such as Planet Fitness, Orange Theory, etc, you can explore their Las Vegas locations.

For yoga enthusiasts, TravCon is proud to offer yoga on the morning of Sept 9th and Sept 10th prior to starting sessions. The first 20 people who attend will receive a yoga mat; otherwise, please bring your own mat or towel to practice yoga on. The yoga class is run by Mark Zajac and is a great way to start your day with relaxing and stretching. All levels of yoga experience are welcome! Sign up here and here.

Explore The Arts District

The Arts District is located a short Uber or Lyft ride away from the conference center. It is a walkable neighborhood in north Vegas that is filled with eye-catching street art, local stores, bistros, galleries, and restaurants. It’s a fascinating area where you can pose for some Instagram-worthy shots with murals, and pop in and out of adorable shops!

Shopping

Speaking of shopping, Las Vegas sure does not lack any shops. You could spend days walking around all of the world-class stores in Las Vegas just on the strip. You’ll be able to rack up your steps while shopping; just don’t rack up any credit card bills!

Watch A Show

There is an incredible amount of shows performing while TravCon is in Las Vegas–Cirque du Soleil, Elton John, and Def Leppard to name a few. While seeing a show may not be the best for staying active, it could be turned into an exercise if you walk to the show! Grab your tickets with a friend and see a show.

Connect With Like-minded Travelers

Networking and connecting with like-minded travelers is my favorite part of TravCon. There are plenty of travelers who are not at TravCon for the party! Connect with your peeps and enjoy conversations, walks, a fitness challenge, and maybe dinners together. The Official TravCon Group is a great place to reach out and find people with similar interests.

In conclusion, Las Vegas is a vibrant city with lots of activities! From walking the strip to participating in our fitness challenge, there are plenty of ways to stay fit and active at TravCon!
